OUR MISSION
To research and develop innovative approaches for engaging all members of the community, including organisations and businesses, in a practical exploration of sustainable development issues.
THE GLOBAL VISION
The need for societies to address all aspects and implications of the sustainable development issue on a global scale is now regarded by many scientists as no longer merely an option, for we all now need to learn to live sustainable, otherwise our current un-sustainability will soon reach an inevitable conclusion for us all.
THE KANDU VISION
The vision of KANDU Arts for Sustainable Development is to play a significant role in encouraging and facilitating the whole cross-section of society to investigate and explore the principles of sustainable living. Our work involves young people, local government, social services, Youth Offending Teams, Quangos, educational institutions, businesses, Non-Government Organisations, a whole range of community groups and marginalised groups.
Sustainability means enabling all people to enjoy a rich and satisfying quality of life based on consumption of an equal share of the worlds resources, without destroying the birthright of future generations.
This was clearly laid down in the 1992 Rio Declaration (Agenda 21), which states that:
Principle 1: People throughout the world “are entitled to a healthy and productive life in harmony with nature.
Principle 3: We must equitably meet developmental and environmental needs of present and future generations.
Principle 5: All people shall co-operate in the essential task of eradicating poverty as an indispensable requirement for sustainable development.
Agenda 21 is based on two fundamental principles.
Firstly, it recognises that social, economic and environmental issues are interlinked, and cannot be tackled separately.
Secondly, that progress depends on local action, based on local priorities and widespread participation. There is no standard blueprint for action.
Our mission will be achieved by:
Creating and developing partnerships with those keen to share in achieving mutual goals.
Establishing centres of sustainability for communities, where appropriate, within the UK.
