PEER POSITIVE

Peer Positive is now in its third successful year. It is a crime prevention project which addresses issues of personal safety and community responsibility with the 9 - 12 year old age group by using POSITIVE peer pressure from young people in Years 10, 11 and 12, who are studying drama for GCSE or A level. Each drama group performs their own specifically devised play based on what they believe are issues of concern for the children in their community. In all they perform in 6 of their feeder schools and devise teacher’s packs to sustain the work achieved on the day.

This term the Peer Positive Project has been successfully taking place in 3 North Wiltshire schools , Sheldon, John Bentley and Devizes School. The project has been funded by Crimebeat.

Kandu Arts have also begun the Project in Westwood St Thomas school in Salisbury and will hopefully be starting in St Edmunds School in January. Thanks to Rachel Efemey at Salisbury District Council for finding the funding to make this crime prevention project happen.

The Swindon Community Foundation are again funding 2 Swindon schools, this year, Ridgeway and Kingsdown . Peer Positive will start in these schools in January 2001. For more information please contact Sue Deedigan on 01249 655695.
