A Project for Homeless People
This project will be very pragmatic, working with homeless people in order to support and empower them, not only to explore personal solutions to their difficulties using Arts techniques and media, but also to create work in a range of Arts media, such as performance, video and music, that will then reach a wider audience of people who can make a difference to the national problem of homelessness. Their work can then become an inspiration to other homeless support organisations and reach and influence decision makers.
In order to achieve, awareness, empowerment and sustainability, the project aims:
Ù to raise the profile of young homeless people and bring to the public attention a clearer view of the causes of homelessness and the related social issues and problems.
- to explore issues relating to young homeless people in a positive and accessible way, through arts media - theatre, music, singing and video, offering a supportive environment enabling them to develop pro-active non-conflicting solutions to the difficult problems facing them in their daily lives.
- to develop positive links with the local communities, inviting them to develop a more realistic understanding of the difficulties and challenges facing homeless people and find ways of supporting local projects to sustain the work achieved.
The Project Structure
The project will operate on an annual basis, involving 13 groups of homeless people around the country. KANDU Arts facilitators will work a one week block on site with each group, covering all 13 groups within the year. In mid December, all the groups will come together for a conference in London to present their work to an invited audience, including the press, media and relevant decision makers.
